Working on:

I've been asked to do an original painting for a local show coming up. It will be for Black History Month. This is 11 3/4" x 24" on canvas. I actually gessoed this twice and sanded it in between gesso coats, thanks for the instructional, John Quinn. Not quite finished yet, need a few more tweaks. Not used to working on such a smooth surface-and it's acrylic, which lends itself to such a hard and graphic look. Can't blend or smooth. This one will actually be done before the Chinese warrior horse (see below)

I'm almost done with the girl with the blue hair. All I have to do is finish the background color and I can do that at work. I'm really getting better with the glazing on skin tones-a HUGE breakthrough! The other is an underpainting and I just did this much in about 15 minutes. If you saw me painting, literally I must have looked like a cartoon; paint flying around in a blur!

Color Pallette (This is for my info because I probably will not be able to finish this one tonight): Flesh: Diox purple, umber, raw sienna, touch of cad orange hue for warmer flesh. Hair: Deep Magenta, diox purple, cad red med.

This is the painting which prompted the sculpt. Notice the uninspired lighting? What lighting? I will use the sculpt like a maquette, so I can put some better lighting on this. And since I spent so much time with the sculpt, might as well do another painting of it at a different angle.
