Getting there....

BTW, I just registered for Nathan Fowkes color class on Feb. 12. I'm really excited! It's at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art for a one day workshop, 12-8. It took this workshop from one of the best in the industry to get this little winter cave bear to come out of her den!

Working on this right now. It's for a contest called "Flight" and its due today at 5! I've decided to work a little bit different this time; with pen and ink for the concept sketch, and drawing/painting right on the wacom. Usually I just do the paint on the wacom but I will use the pen tool for most of the shapes, this time it's more freehand. Not a great piece of artwork; just more practice on technique.

Updates while on vacation. When i can, I try to work on my file while on my laptop. Dragons filling out nicely. Top head textures are from the King Cheetah, neck and cheek textures from a mackerel.

Finishing up with a Comic book character, will post soon. In the meantime, I redrew the Archer since I was not happy with it. Face needed more intensity, more appeal. Greg helped me work this difficult pose out.

I need reference. Reference ads authority and weight to a drawing. I was fascinated by some greyhound pics I found on the internet-I liked the foreshortening and the crazed look on the hound's face. I was also influenced by striping on the baby alligators-how sinister it made the animal. I found a pic of a snarling wolf-loved the intensity and then the foreshortening of the t-rex. Got really lucky and found a perfect reference for the hawk. I redrew it, and slightly changed the head direction. What does a hatching reptile actually look like? Found the hatching reptiles on the internet. I wanted a flavor of all these pics in the illio.
